Check Car Before a Road Trip

There are particular factors to take into consideration when checking your tyres for a road trip and those details are included in this Article.

  • If the car “wanders” from side to side at highway speed that means the steering wheel is off-center. If the car pulls to one side, the wheel alignment should be checked.
  • Ensure that all shocks, CV joints and springs are in good working order. If there is any sign of damage on any of the parts then it needs to be replaced immediately.
  • Checking the fluids in your car may help you avoid an accident or an unnecessary breakdown, this includes oil, power steering fluid, transmission fluid, antifreeze, windshield washer fluid and brake fluid.
  • Ensure that all pipes and belts are tightly secured.
  • Ensure that all lights and signals are functional on your car and replace bulbs as necessary. Also take note that occasionally, lights may not work because a fuse needs to be replaced.
  • You need to ensure that your wipers give you a smear-free view and if they don’t, it is time to put on new wipers.
  • Your car’s brakes are your last line of defense and you need it to be in top-notch condition.
  • The air filter keeps the wrong particles from entering the engine but, with time, it gets dirty and becomes less effective. It needs to be checked regularly, especially before a lengthy road trip.
  • Ensure that the electrical and ignition systems are as good as new and make sure your car’s battery and cables are securely attached and free of corrosion.
  • You need to ensure that the petrol cap is tightened properly. If this cap is not secure, the petrol will evaporate from your tank as you drive.
  • Please keep in mind that no matter how much maintenance you and your mechanic do on you vehicle it is not a guarantee that you will not have auto troubles on the road. You have to be prepared for the worst and having a roadside survival kit at hand will make an unexpected breakdown a lot less stressful.
  • You should keep a copy of your car’s warranty and contact information for all the emergency care services you have at your disposal should be kept in your glove compartment. You should take along a set of spare keys to your car and have a mobile GPS system at hand to.

If you have followed these guidelines I am certain that you can now head off on a well-deserved holiday with your family. Enjoy your trip.

Maintenance of Classic Cars in Winter

Being prepared

It is every vintage car owner’s nightmare to find the vehicle being affected by corrosion. However individuals are not able to clearly identify issues that can happen on the interior. They only see the exterior of the vehicle and recognize scratches, chips and corrosion. It is no doubt mandatory to correct these issues; however it is also true that most of the problems affect the interior of the vintage cars. The most common issue is the formation of rust caused when air combines with water and steel. It should be noted that the water in the air is also sufficient enough to cause corrosion.

Handling areas difficult to access

The only solution to prevent areas difficult to access from corrosion is by proofing them from rust. The most appropriate way to do this is by applying wax based coating to the interior panels of your classic car. Some areas are harder to access and these require holes to be drilled specifically to reach them. The exterior of the cars can use a bit of the same coating as well. A very common rust causing agent is mud because it comes with a lot of moisture.

Preventing rust from forming

It is necessary to consider a rust treatment that will effectively prevent rust from being formed on your car. All the dirt and mud from your car needs to be room most of so that corrosion can be spotted easily. When the signs of corrosion are spotted early on, it gets very easy to prevent rust from forming.

A good method of preventing rust is by using a rust inhibitor on the stone chips and damaged areas. Once coated with the inhibitor, these areas can be retouched with paint.

Spray Paint Your Car

Before starting, park the car in a well-ventilated area which would make drying easier. Use duct tape and plastic sheets to cover portions of the car which won’t be painted like windows, lights and mirrors. You could also choose to remove these parts. Rub the entire surface of your vehicle with medium-grit sand paper. Ensure that you don’t miss a spot and that the surface is even. Wipe with a dry towel to remove any foreign particles.

Onto the surface of the car, apply a layer of primer. Use a brush to ensure that the primer is spread thinly and evenly. Leave it to dry for as long as it takes, which should not be more than three hours. Using fine grit sandpaper, rub the surface of the car. Do the sanding in a back and forth motion, and ensure that the surface is completely even. Now you can remove any dirt and sand particles using a dry towel.

Before using the can of spray paint, remember to shake it properly. Make sure that the can works well by spraying the paint over some old newspapers before using it on your car. After checking, spray the paint onto the car from the distance recommended by the paint manufacturer. During the first coat, the paint will be a light shade. Do not over spray, and leave the coat as it is. The paint will be evened out later on. After applying the first coat, leave it to dry for an hour or two.

Repeat the same spraying process as earlier two more times for a total of three coats. If you feel that the paint is not dark enough, you can apply an extra coat of paint as well. After you have completed the painting process, leave the final coat of paint to dry for at least three hours.

After it has dried, apply a clear finishing coat using a brush. Use fine grit sandpaper to sand out the surface, and apply another layer of clear finish. Repeat the sanding process with an extremely fine sandpaper to completely polish and buff the vehicle’s surface. Apply one last layer of clear coat, and leave the vehicle to dry.

The painting process has been completed, and you are free to remove all the protective tapes and sheets. Wipe the newly painted surface with a microfiber cloth dipped in polish, to add some extra shine to your vehicle.

Toyo Tyres

Night time is always present in the woods. The trees block every bit of light and help the predators with their hunting. A little girl bearing a red cape runs away from the wolf that has spotted her in its territory. Toyo sees this and distracts the wolf long enough for the little girl to run away to safety. The sidekick pops out from the other end of the dirt path to assist the hero. The wolf will have to find a different dinner tonight.

Meanwhile, a young woman is being enslaved to do her step sisters chores. She is noble, too, and shouldn’t be working this way. She wants to go to the yearly function that takes place in the castle upon the hill. The Toyo guardians drift around the corner and give the noble girl beautiful white shoes that will surely not break. Their magic also gives her a lovely purple ball gown that will make her the most beautiful lady at the dance.

They drift around the wealthier part of town and scare all the nobles because they treat the less advantaged badly. In this part of town, they have benefits such as sunlight and sanitation.

Turning into a darker part of town they see a girl that is freezing from the cold and darkness. Her only request to people is to light her candle so that her family can be warm. Toyo speeds past her fast enough to light her candle. She smiles, thankful that someone has provided her with fire.

The young woman is on her way to the castle in a beautiful carriage pulled along by a white horse. The white horse is a noble steed that is taking her to a happy future. She walks up the marble staircase with her dress flowing gracefully behind her. She meets the prince at the top of the staircase. The prince dances with her and spins her around; showing the young woman that she is the only one for him.

Consider When Purchasing a Classic Car

Determine the model

You do not have to buy a classic car to fill the available space in your garage. It is advisable to have in mind exactly what model and make you want to own. This way you will avoid looking out for the opportunity to just own a classic car. It is unwise to choose the car you come across in the first old cars for sale available in your locality. This is particularly the case if you have no knowledge about classic cars. Take the time to shop around and take a long a professional appraiser who will determine the price of the car by considering the condition of the car, the previous owner, the type of restoration that has been done and much more.

Negotiate the price

Owners of classic vehicles are usually reluctant sellers. In fact, those who have classic cars in their possession have them for a reason. It is possible the car would have belonged to their grandfather. Therefore, the majority of classic cars owners will often sell their possession out of necessity as opposed to desire. Although you can find some sellers who are selling the car for the simple reason of wanting to dispose it, the majority of people do this for the need of ready cash to cater for unexpected bills. Usually, such people will often inflate the prices of their classics. Therefore, be ready to negotiate the price that you are given. However, if you want the car badly, be ready to pay a little more.

Alfa Romeo Giulietta

The Giulietta is available in four models and there are three choices of engine. These are the 1.4 litre turbo charged petrol, the 1.6 litre diesel and the 2.0 litre diesel. The model is attractive, well equipped and the controls are very user friendly. The five door Giulietta has rear door handles in the windows which makes it more like a coupe than a hatchback.

This is a fun car to drive and it handles well on twisting road as well as in the city streets. There are three driving modes: Dynamic, All Weather and Normal.

The sporty setting is the Dynamic and the other two modes are self explanatory. The models with twin clutches come with a semi automatic transmission box with paddle controls on the steering wheel.

Whilst the 2.0 litre diesel is a little noisy, the 1.6 litre diesel is slower than you would expect so you can opt for speed and noise or slow and economical. The position of the pedals is not quite central and this could prove to be a problem for some people.

Inside the cabin, the model is quiet with very little road or wind noise but the previously mentioned pedals position makes it hard to get into a comfortable driving position. Visibility is also poor with wide door pillars and a small rear window making it hard to see through the rear. Headroom in the back is also lower than in the Focus and could make comfort difficult for tall passengers.
