Replacing Shock Absorbers

The devices work on hydraulic pumps that control the impact the car makes against the road. You will notice that an off-road vehicle will not pick up small imperfections on the road because it has such a powerful device. It also ensures that you have proper braking response to avoid hectic accidents.

Checking your shocks should be done if you dive during heavy braking, hit bumps very hard, or the car is leaking shock fluid. Normal driving can also affect the quality of the shock absorbers over time.

You may need a spring compressor to remove the springs on the shock absorbers. The compressor is necessary if the springs are interrelated or integrated. You will need to be careful when doing this as the springs are loaded with high pressure and sudden releasing could be dangerously damaging.

Using a jack stand to lift the car will help you when replacing the parts. You will need to lift the one side of the car at least thirty centimetres off the ground to make the process easier. This is where you will need to use the spring compressor for safe removal. You will also come across three bolts that will need to be removed using a socket wrench.

Installing new parts is the simple part. You will need to use a torque wrench when tightening the bolts to ensure stability. Putting the wheel and tyre back in place will complete the replacing of the shock absorbers.

It is important that you take the car for a slow drive to test the stability of your work. If you start to notice strange sounds it would be wise to have a mechanic check out the problem. Wiggle the car and go over humps as well to test if the shocks have been installed correctly.


Paintless Dent Removal

The method of repairing minor dings in car bodies without having to repaint the area began in 1960 during an International Motorsports showcase. Oskar Flaig worked as a staff member for Mercedes, repairing the paintwork on show cars. The vehicles that made their ways around the trade fairs often became damaged with scratches and small dents. He would repaint these vehicles each night.

One evening while at a show in New York City, Flaig used a hammer handle to push out a dip in a door. He did it so that he would not have to use as much filler to repair the damage. However, once he was finished, he noticed that the area looked like new.

Unfortunately, the practice was widely unused for almost three decades. Natalio Balderrama reintroduced the technique in the United States under the name “Dent Wizard International.”

While PDR was not used for several decades, the techniques for removing minor damage have not really changed. The main method of performing paintless dent removal is to push the dings out from the inside. Instead of using hammer handles, as Flaig once used, technicians utilize rods and body picks. Additionally, technicians also use specially designed tabs glued onto the surface and pull from the outside using picks.

In order to manipulate the precise damaged area correctly, the mechanic utilizes a special instrument to read the area. This tool works by having a light or reflection board to help visualize the deformation. This additional light helps the tech see the tip of the tool and how to precisely push the damage out. Without the additional light, the specialist cannot see the fine detail necessary to make the repair.

During the process, it is possible for the technician to push too hard, causing a high spot to appear. If it is too high, it could crack the clear coat finish on the surface. Quality workers can repair the damage without causing more. However, in the event of a high spot, these same skilled professionals can easily blend the spots to match the paint texture using a technique known as orange peel.

It is believed that quick-tempered Enzo recommended Feruccio to deal exclusively with tractors, and never even touch a sports car. Feruccio Lamborghini took it as a challenge resolving to use his assets, experience, and passion to found a company, capable of going toe-to-toe with Ferrari.
  • This may come up as a surprise to some of you, but Lamborghini never participated in any major motorsports competitions. According to the will of Feruccio Lamborghini, his company stayed away from racing, because the famous Italian engineer always believed the motorsports to be a big waste of time and resources.

  • The Italian automaker launched its first production model in 1963. With the top speed of 280 km / h, Lamborghini 350GTV was a leader among production cars of its time.
  • The Italian company uses very distinctive naming convention for its car models. Feruccio Lamborghini was quite a fan of Spanish bullfight. In 1963, he visited the cattle-bred farm Miura in Seville. It was owned by Don Eduardo Miura Fernandez, one of the most famous breeders of fighting bulls in Spain. This visit had a strong influence on the Italian industrialist. In fact, he was so impressed by the traditional art of bullfighting, that he made a decision to name all his new sports cars after famous fighting bulls. Traditionally in Spanish bullfight, bulls that manage to defeat a matador are given life, and their names are forever inscribed in the history of the sport. Ferruccio Lamborghini was convinced, that a name of a fighting bull will emphasize the untamed nature of sports cars created under Lamborghini marque. By the way, Ferruccio Lamborghini himself was also a bull in a sense, since his zodiac sign was Taurus. (He was born on April 28, 1916).
  • The first model to be introduced to the world under the “bullish” name was Lamborghini Miura. The sports car debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in 1966. The public warmly received it; however, spectators were somewhat confused, since they were not allowed to open the hood. This was not a coincidence: there was simply no engine under it! Since the engine was still being designed, the prototype was sent to the Geneva Motor Show with a ballast instead of an engine under the hood. Eventually, Miura proved to be a very good car.
  • Lamborghini Countach was produced by the Italian company for 16 years (from 1974 to 1990). Notably, this sports car is one of the a few Lamborghini models, with a name that has nothing to do with bulls and bullfighting. The word “countach” comes from the Piedmontese language, spoken in a region of Piedmont in North-West of Italy. It is an expression of excitement or astonishment and can be translated as “Heavens!” According to the legend, Nuccio Bertone himself made such an exclamation when he saw the first sketches of the future supercar.
  • The story of Lamborghini was not always a story of success. In 1987, the American automobile giant Chrysler, practically saved it from oblivion by acquiring it. The same year, the Italian vehicle manufacturer presented a peculiar concept car under the name of Portofino. It was a sedan with four doors of the guillotine type, powered by a 3.5-liter engine installed at the rear. Although it remained only a prototype, its image and design was subsequently embodied in many Chrysler cars.

The luxury boat Riva Aquarama became one of the leaders of the market thanks to high performance and versatility of the incredible Lamborghini V12 engine.

Even the above benefits wouldn’t amount to much if you had to constantly keep reapplying the coating (this would definitely hurt its environmental benefits, too). However, there’s a reason satellite dishes, traffic-light casings and even heavy duty machinery have all been treated with powder coatings in the past. Despite the relentless wear and tear these objects are up against, a solid coating will not give up.

Lastly, there are countless applications for a powder coating, only a few of which we already mentioned. People have used this process to help their automobile or motorcycle stand out. It’s also been used in combination with stencils to make an eye-catching advertisement that ensures an individual’s business gets the attention it deserves.


Importance of Brake Fluid

The fluid needs to be checked often because of the ability it has to absorb moisture. Excess moisture and alien liquid deteriorates the brake fluid by corroding it. Excess moisture can come from the atmosphere. The liquid that gets drawn into the fluid will also affect the boiling point which is vital for proper braking. Water boils at 100 degrees Celsius whereas clean fluid boils at 230 degrees Celsius. Vaporisation needs to be avoided in the hydraulic system as it is compressible therefore affecting the car’s ability to stop.

At times, the fluid can also contain copper. Copper is likely to release patina, which is a corrosive substance that eats away at metal. Mechanics can test if there is copper in the pipes by means of an electronic tester.

Brake fluid must have a low viscosity to flow quickly through the hydraulic system as the driver applies the pedal. In other words, it has to be thin enough to travel quickly throughout the hydraulic system as opposed to oil which is too thick. If it gets thick, the driver will notice this because of the delay in reaction time of the braking system. The colour of the liquid can also determine if you need to change the fluid. If it is darker in colour then it needs to be replaced immediately as there is a high level of contamination.

Brake fluid protects the linings of the metallic parts as well as the valves, callipers and cylinders. It also protects the metallic components from corroding. It needs to be replaced at least once every couple of years. Replacing it requires the mechanic to bleed the system. Bleeding it involves the pipe to be removed from the rest of the system. Deal With an Overheating Car Engine

PULL OVER

When a car has just overheated, attempting to drive it further can risk harming the engine. You should never drive an overheating car because the engine (and other important inner components) can sustain irrevocable damages. It can also be dangerous to you and anyone in or around the vehicle. For instance, head gaskets can blow, engine parts can melt, and smoke can accumulate in large masses.

ALLOW THE ENGINE TO COOL

Once you have pulled over and turned the engine off, be sure to turn on your hazards to alert people of your position. This is especially important at night. Keep all car lights on in the evening if you are ever pulled over on the edge of a street. Many people make the mistake of opening their hoods right away and touching the radiator cap; this is a huge mistake! The car engine and radiator will be very hot and can cause second and third degree burns. Always allow your vehicle to cool off for at least fifteen minutes, depending on the amount of time spent driven prior to the break down. This way you can protect yourself from accidents and injury.

CHECK FOR FLUID LEAKS

When the vehicle has completely cooled, check around and underneath it for any signs of leaking. This could indicate a wide variety of issues, from a cracked radiator to a faulty radiator hose. If there is no sign of leakage, take a look at the oil. Remove the dipstick and concentrate on the color. If it is dark brown and sludgy-looking, this means the liquid coolant might be seeping into the engine. This can result from a blown head gasket or cracked engine block. Even if the oil looks normal, these damages may still be the underlying problem.

Types of Car Air Fresheners

Can

The can style of air freshener is similar to the sticky gel, and consists of a metal or plastic can that holds a sweet-smelling fragrant gel pack. The can has a top section with adjustable holes which makes it easy to determine the amount of fragrance to release at any one time. While these products have the potential to last longer than most of the sticky gel products, they still aren’t very effective at removing the strongest smells in the vehicle.

Plug-in

The plug-in fresheners are a popular choice and consist of an oil-based compound that is contained within a plastic housing. They are designed to plug into the power outlet on the dashboard, and start to emit a fragrance once the oil-based compound is heated. This plug-in is great for strong odors, and soon fills the entire car with a sweet-smelling fragrance.

Spray

The spray type of freshener is quick and easy to use. The liquid-gaseous fragrance for these air fresheners comes in a pressurized can which can be sprayed when an unpleasant smell is noticed. Spray fresheners aren’t the longest lasting and will need to be sprayed at regular intervals if hoping to block out the most powerful odors.

Sticky Gel

The sticky gel air fresheners are made with a solid, sticky type of gel that holds the fragrant oil. This type of freshener easily sticks to any dry surface within the vehicle without a need to use adhesive. Also, because it doesn’t rely on the air vents or other form of propulsion it isn’t as effective at eliminating the stronger smells inside the vehicle. A positive of the fragrant oil is the ability to last longer than the aerosol, paper or cardboard products.

Cardboard

The low-cost solution to keep the vehicle smelling fresh is the hanging cardboard air fresheners. They are meant to hang from the rear view mirror, and made from a scented cardboard. While the scented cardboard products are quite long-lasting they aren’t the most effective at controlling the most noticeable or unpleasant smells inside the vehicle.

Low Coolant

Discolored Coolant
