Fuel Injector Burning

Long time idling operation

Due to the diesel engine keeps running slowly for a long time, the temperature in the cylinder is low, the fuel combustion is not sufficient, the combustion chamber and fuel injection nozzle are easy to form carbon deposition. So it leads to the deterioration of working conditions for fuel injection nozzle. Especially in winter, it is even more serious under the condition of cold climate. Because the combustion chamber has carbon deposition, heat dissipation is slow, which may cause spray orifice obstruction of the injection nozzle and the oil drip phenomenon may happen. The fuel stays in the nozzle head for a long time, the local high temperature will make the nozzle and thermal insulation jacket burned.

The fuel is not clean

Due to there are small particles of impurities in the fuel, the needle valve and needle valve body of the fuel injector will wear. It is possible that the needle valve will be stuck in the needle valve body.Because of needle valve lag, the fuel can’t be periodically, quantitatively and quickly sprayed into the combustion chamber, the oil drip phenomenon will appear, which may cause the fuel atomization is not good and the combustion speed is reduced. Due to the burning time of the nozzle is extended, which will make the nozzle and the thermal insulation jacket burned. When such fault occurs, there will be black smoke and chattering phenomenon.

Fuel injection time is too late

The fuel injection advance angle is too small which may lead to a late fuel injection time. If it can’t be adjusted for a long time, the local high temperature will make the nozzle and thermal insulation jacket burned.

Improper assembly

If the nozzle insulation sheath is installed without cleaning, there will be a gap between the fuel injection nozzle and the insulation sheath. The gas enters into the gap, the heat insulation and cooling effect is reduced, which will cause the fuel injection nozzle and the insulation sheath burned. If the thermal insulation sheath is too tight, the nozzle will generate additional stress. Under the combined action of heat alternating load and high pressure of fuel injection, the nozzle will be broken and the needle valve will be stuck. In addition, if the insulation sheath can’t get installed during maintenance, the nozzle extends into the combustion chamber more than 4mm above the cylinder head bottom, the heat absorbed by the injection nozzle will increase, which make the nozzle melted.

Improper use of the genset

If it lacks of coolant liquid while the unit is at work, the combustion chamber can’t be in good state of cooling, which will lead to the high temperature. This is also an important reason to cause the burning of fuel injection nozzle.

How to Change A Tyre

  1. Firstly, make sure that you stop on the side of the road where it is safe and you have enough space to change the tyre. Always be aware of the oncoming traffic where you are changing the tyre.
  2. Making sure that you have all the necessary tools to do this job is an important factor. You will need a tyre iron, a jack, a spare tyre that is properly inflated and fit for the purpose, as well as the manual for the car. This manual will give you the necessary instructions on how to change the tyre if there are specific features your car may have.
  3. Make sure that you have the handbrake activated before you start with the wheel changing process. It is also important to place an object behind the opposite wheel in case the car starts to roll backwards.
  4. On most cars, there are indentations under the car that make for a stable place to place the car jack. You can see where these indentations are by means of small markings along the side of the car. The side of the car has to be at least twenty centimetres off the ground so that you can easily change the part.
  5. You will need to remove the hubcap so that you can reach the tyre. The hubcap has been clipped on and can be removed by wedging the flat part of the tyre iron into the crevice of the cap. The hubcap is the part of the tyre that protects the lug nuts beneath.
  6. Loosen the lug nuts using the correct side of the iron. Some cars have special adaptors that fit onto the nuts. You won’t need to completely remove the lug nuts as of yet. You can remove them as soon as you have taken the tyre off of the wheel. The tyre should simply click out of place and be easy to remove.
  7. Fit the spare tyre to the wheel piece. The bolts have to line up with the holes. Place the lug nuts onto the bolts and start tightening it equally by hand. You can then use the iron to tighten the nuts properly without having wasted too much energy. Do not over fasten as it could break.
  8. You can then place the hubcap back onto the face and lower the car. The spare tyre should only be used for emergency moments. You will notice that they are narrower than a regular tyre.


Keep Tyres Looking Good

Treading on the tyres can easily be worn away when you are driving. You can minimise the amount of damage you do by driving correctly. Sudden braking and spinning can wear away the tread detail very quickly. Only apply sudden braking if safety calls for it. Always start applying the brakes when you are about five to ten meters away from the car in front of you. Spinning can be prevented by releasing the clutch as you apply fuel to the engine.

Did you know that there is a practical way to get your tyres to be glossy? This is known as dressing or protectant. Many car dealers will apply this substance on the tyres to give the car a glossier and more attractive appearance. It also protects the rubber from the UV lights of the sun and the toxic air pollution that degrades the quality rubber surface. The dressing or protectant also adds a layer to prevent any oil or dirt from sticking onto your tyre. This chemical isn’t greasy so it won’t cause you to spin on the road. Rather it is more of a non-stick surface that can grip onto the gravel or tar road.

Sunlight has the harsh ability to age and damage the rubber on the tyres. Over time you will start experiencing the tyres to be brittle and it can break with the slightest hit. However, you can avoid this from happening.

When cleaning your tyres you need to use a cloth, a high pressure hose and the cleaning detergent of your choice. You always start with hosing down the tyres to remove any dirt, oil or residue. This shouldn’t take long and will make the cleaning process easier. After you have hosed the dirt away you can apply the wheel detergent. To remove oil from the wheels you will require than just water so a wheel detergent would be ideal. Next, you can use brushes that can clean the treads and crevices. The cloth will absorb any water that was on the rim and leave it looking clean and sparkly.

Volvo Wagon

The following is a short history of the Volvo wagon:

  1. The roots of the Volvo Wagon actually began back in the year 1944 when the compact P444 was released. Then, in 1949 the P444 was followed by the P445, but it used a separate chassis.
  2. Naturally, the P445 was a hit because of its durability and reliability and the customers did not want to replace it for the new ones, which was what the automaker expected.
  3. Since by 1952 there was 1,500 unsold 445 units, Volvo decided to they could green light produce these units into a Volvo van. Tasked with the design of this van was Engineer Erik Skoog.
  4. The first Volvo wagon called the Duett because people said it was “two cars in one” was released. This was about 15 months after Volvo gave the assignment to Skoog.

The wagon was personally delivered to the Volvo president at the time Assar Gabrielsson on July 4, 1953, because it was his wish that all the old 445s be developed accordingly. The Duett really was two cars in one as it could be used as a family station wagon and a commercial van. In the automotive world, the Duett became a staple and kept its iconic design up to 1969. At that point, engineers were forced to change the wagon due to safety regulations.

The production of the vehicle totaled about 100,000, but what is more important is that the Duett was instrumental in establishing Volvo as one of the best automakers. Even though Duett’s have not been made for nearly 40 years, you can still see hints of the wagon design in different Volvo models today. For example, the V60 model, due to make its debut in the US in 2014 is a sports wagon. The US market already has available the XC60 and the XC70, but these are technically a part of the crossover vehicles. Still, even with these two, you can still see the station wagon design roots.

So, while you are busy remembering all the beach trips, fireworks and backyard parties, try also to remember the automotive milestone, that is also worth celebrating. Remember the day, over 60 years ago when the then small Swedish automaker, after making an international statement, released the Duett Wagon. Duel of Fuel and Electric

The theory is not merely a wild speculation or desktop projection, it’s a real world simulation. The UC Davis has recently launched the “EV Project” that allowed the car-users to simulate their commute in an EV (Electric Vehicle) compared to a gas-powered vehicle. The project found that, a 50-mile round-trip commute could save an electric 2014 Chevrolet Volt owner about $1,000 of annual fuel costs compared to driving a gasoline-based 2014 Ford Focus. However, pure electric cars are more expensive than their gas-based counterparts. For instance, a 2018 Ford Focus costs less than $18,000, while the 2018 Chevrolet Volt will set consumers back more than $34,000 and the all-electric Chevrolet Bolt will take more than $38,000. Solving the equation in this hypothetical scenario, it would take the Chevy owner more than 17 years to recoup the extra costs of buying an Electric. In other words, EVs are not suitable for the users who plan to hold on to the vehicle for a long period of time. EVs also cost more upfront than gas-based cars. They need supporting charging infrastructure, plug-in accessibility and specialized maintenance workshops, which are not adequate yet to meet the rising consumer demand.

The added concern is spiced up when it comes to mileage and range. With a single charge, most of the elite EVs like Tesla Model X, Model S, Model 3, Chevrolet Bolt, and 2018 Nissan Leaf can run only 225 miles on an average in an ideal scenario. This number can get as low as 170 on cold or hot days with heater or AC running full blast. Hybrids and gas-based cars are better options in this case. To get full potential of the Hybrids, some auto buyers opt for the Plug-in Hybrids (PHEV). A 2018 Chevrolet Volt, for instance, has 53 miles of electric range, and a conventional gas tank for longer trips up to 420 miles.

It is true that EVs are environment friendly but they are not necessarily clean as the electricity is generated somehow. It is comparable to using the same fossil fuel – only cleaner. The EVs run on lithium-ion battery, which needs to be mined from the ground. Chemically, lithium is a corrosive alkali metal which disposes hazardous gaseous derivatives when it comes in contact with moisture, resulting in increased environment pollution. In application, this may cause the EVs to emit hazardous gases or even catch fire if they are stored in a cold weather or are not properly maintained. The current electric infrastructure of such technology does not provide provision for reusing the batteries or recalibrating the disposal costs. Fuel-based cars can be easily rebuilt, their engines swapped and fuels filtered; but not so currently with an Electric.

The technology of the “Future Transportations” is still young and expensive than their gas-based cousins. The EVs may be easier to charge, but they cost more in the medium-long run. Even the most advanced EV batteries wear out eventually and need frequent replacement. For such replacement, Tesla Model 3 battery pack costs $190 per kWh and Chevy Bolt battery pack $205 per kWh. The charging stations are another link to the EV sustenance. In a euphoric state, consumers can skip the gas stations and ‘fill-up’ their EV either from a charging station on their way to work or through an added solar array sitting in their home. In reality, while gas stations can be found every 1 mile on a regular highway, EV battery charging stations may not be found that often. People living in apartments or condos may find it difficult to get the charging plug-ins. At a high cost, the plug-ins are now available only in the most advanced countries, such as the US and Western Europe. Not to mention, this becomes a deal breaker for many new buyers and gives headache to auto owners in the developing countries.

The perennial debate gains much traction over automobile safety issue. In theory, EVs are less combustible than gas cars. However, once caught on flame, EVs are hard to put out. In October 2017, a Tesla Model S caught fire after it crashed into a concrete barrier on Ahlberg Expressway in Austria. The incident took 35 firefighters to extinguish the blaze. Recently, on March 23, 2018, a Tesla Model X rammed headfirst into an unshielded median on Highway 101 in California and caught on fire. The blaze shut the highway for 5 hours which became a nightmare for the firefighters to put out. The EV motors are not responsible for such disastrous accidents. The potent villains are the lithium-ion batteries that can fuel hotter fires and release intense heat and are harder to extinguish. The battery fires further generate a range of toxic fumes, smoke and gas that pose greater danger for daily commute and the environment. At present, only a handful personnel from the EV makers have the expertise in tackling such electrical emissions and hazards. The state firefighters and general commuters are not always aware of this ‘technological knowhow’ as the EVs do not come with a detailed manual of ‘101 of Putting Out your EV Fire’!

The recent crashes are bringing back the debate on whether EVs are safer than diesel and gasoline-powered vehicles when it comes to safety. In black and white, the Tesla Model X may have a perfect score for crash test safety rating. But hands-on experiences and records always prove stronger than rainbow promises and white-washed lab results. With technological breakthrough EVs may be the harbinger of transportation revolution in the coming decades. Battery packs replacement cost may drop to as little as $73 per kWh after 2030 and the current range anxiety may become a thing of past. The Hybrids and EVs may offer greater options and more convenience to the demanding consumer end and new commercial setup. But at this stage, if we consider road safety for tension-free travel, it is easier to bet on the ‘combustion’ engines over the battery run motors.

Wheel Balancing

The solution to this problem is relatively easy. When you feel the vibration, take your car to a wheel and fitment centre that makes use of superior equipment. They will take the car for a test drive to monitor the vibration and the sounds. Then they will conduct a test in the fitment centre. With the selected equipment, they will balance the wheels. They will take the car for a final test drive to monitor whether the vibration has been eliminated. Then the car will be handed over to you. It is advisable for you to perform your own test drive once you leave the wheel and tyre fitment centre. Drive the speed that previously caused the vibrations to check if the steering wobbles and feel for any vibrations. These issues should be resolved, so there should be no odd occurrences while you’re driving.

Roof Rack Essentials

This usually eliminates the sound. You don’t have to totally wrap the crossbar, just a few wraps will do. You could also install fairings to reduce wind drag to eliminate the sound. Also, check whether the end caps of the crossbars have come off and if your setup allows you to easily remove the racks, take them off when not in use. This eliminates the noise and saves fuel.

Decide on a modular or complete setup – some setups come in one bundle. However, these systems won’t let you swap in another part from some third party brand. You’re lucky enough if you can find out.
